Directions to All Race Points

The race is run on the Uwharrie Trail in the Uwharrie National Forest. All races begin at the northern trailhead (Jumping Off Rock) on Flint Hill Rd. (also known as State Road (SR) 1306), two miles east of Ophir, NC.Parking & Shuttles
U.S. Forest Service officials have mandated NO PARKING at the race start on Flint Hill Rd. Parking is NOT PERMITTED along the side of the road. It is OK to be dropped off and picked up at the start area, but your driver will not be permitted to park. For spectators who return to watch the 40-Mile finish, there is very limited parking on the side of the road in a specific location near the trailhead. Please obey signs or you will be towed.A bus and/or shuttle van will take you to the start area and take you from the finish back to your car. Please be patient and be prepared to wait for a shuttle.

ALL RUNNERS, ALL SPECTATORS, ALL DISTANCES will be directed to park at the Eldorado Outpost.This will be the location for parking and packet pick-up for the 8, 20, and 40 mile participants. Shuttles will run from 6:00am to 8:30am. The shuttle ride to the start takes approximately 15 minutes. Directions can be found at the top of the page.

Spectator/Race Crew Information
THERE IS NO PARKING AT THE START. If you would like to watch the race start, take a shuttle with the runners. Please be courteous and let participants get on before you. Shuttles will be running back and forth between Eldorado Outpost and the race start after the start of the 40 and until the start of the 8 mile run. After the 8 mile run the shuttles will leave for Eldorado one last time. It is your responsibility to get on a bus. There will be no announcements. The best way to view the race is to take your own vehicle to the 2 mile marker — see the directions at the top of the page to help you get there.

Check-in / Packet Pick-Up
Pick up your bib number and shirt at the pre-race dinner or at check-in prior to your race. ALL runners must check in at the Eldorado Outpost on race morning. Check-in opens 90 minutes prior to your race and closes 15 minutes prior to your race.

You may pick-up your packet at The Exchange in Asheboro (location of pre-race dinner) from 5:00-7:00PM on Friday. Jan. 31st.

40-Mile Race starts @ 7:00am (Packet pick-up opens @ 5:30a)
20-Mile Race starts @ 8:00am (Packet pick-up opens @ 6:30a)
8-Mile Race starts @ 9:00am (Packet pick-up opens @ 7:30a)

Shuttle Service 
Transportation will be provided to and from the parking areas for runners without crews. Please be prepared to wait for the van that will take you back. The shuttle ride from the parking area to the start area takes approx. 12 minutes.

40-milers: shuttle will run from 6:00-6:30AM
20-milers: shuttle will run from 6:30-7:30AM
8-milers: shuttle will run from 7:30-8:30AM

Bag Check
You will be given a drop bag for dry clothes/shoes. Please bring this with you on the shuttle to the start area and it will await you at the finish (and at the turnaround for the 40-milers.) Official bags will be provided – no personal bags or duffles accepted.  No valuables, please!

All finishers receive handmade pottery awards from Michael Mahan, a local Seagrove potter.  Top 3 male & female finishers in each race receive special commemorative pottery.

Aid Stations
Aid stations are situated at the 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35 and 38-mile points.  Water, GU Roctane Energy Drink, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, GU energy gels, cookies, chips, trailmix, PB&J, and soup at most stations. Soup, snacks & hot drinks at the 40-mile finish. Aid Stations also have basic first aid supplies, so please ask if you need anything.

EMTs will be stationed at the 8-Mile and 20-Mile mark. HAM radio operators are located at most aid stations for the purpose of tracking runners and communicating with the race director. Please ensure your bib number is clearly visible at all times. If you choose to discontinue the race at any point, you must report your name and bib number to an aid station volunteer.

Pre-Race Dinner
A pre-race pasta dinner is held on Friday from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at The Exchange in downtown Asheboro, just 5 minutes from the race hotel (same location as pre-race packet pick-up). Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance. Lots of door prizes, beer/wine, and yummy deserts!

Crew Access
Crews may access their runners at the 8, 11, 20, 29, 32 and 38 mile points. Driving directions are posted at the top of the page.
